3 Ways to Stop Letting Fear Get in the Way of Achieving Your Dreams
Hello! Welcome to my very first blog post on Eleahvate!
Y’all when I say this has been a plan in the making for the last… I’m embarrassed to admit it…. 3 years…
It’s only right that my first post is dedicated to just doing the damn thing!
If there’s something in your life that you’ve been wanting to do, but for whatever reason have put this dream on the back-burner, then you’re going to want to read what’s in this post.
When it boils down to it, I think it all comes down to fear.
I’ve feared creating Eleahvate for so long because my mind was preoccupied with the never ending “what if” scenarios.
“What if I can’t stay consistent”
“What if I run out of topics to discuss”
“What if this is another project that I start and don’t see through”
The Power of Self Fulfilling Prophecies
It’s crazy how these self-limiting beliefs have become so present in my mind.
The more I think about it… cause I’m a thinker! My thoughts have become self fulfilling prophecies.
I’ve spent so much energy imagining all of these worst case scenarios that they actually prevented me from starting.
I’m a big believer in our thoughts create reality so if I fill my mind with fear based beliefs then my reality will be full of all my fears.
And if all my thoughts are based on my fears then you guessed it, all of my actions will be based on how I can protect myself from my fears.

Part of the process is being aware of potential roadblocks and brainstorming ways to move through these obstacles.
But there is a fine balance between this and being so aware that it’s paralyzing.
Why dont people conquer their fears?
I think the answer lies in this quote that goes something like “Most people never start because they are too afraid of being a beginner.”
This ties back to society conditioning us to believe that things are as they appear on social media.
When you see someone post a victory online, you are seeing a fraction of the work they put into achieving that goal.
What you’re seeing is an edited version of their success, with no imperfections, polished, and free of any struggles.
So when you go back and try to achieve that goal and are experiencing some friction you don’t believe that you are meant to pursue it and quit.
This is something I’ve grappled with while starting this blog.
Initially I didn’t want to start because I told myself I don’t have enough followers, and that I didn’t want to go through the motions of being a beginner in such a public way.
But once I realized that was just another way of letting fear be the basis for my decisions, I couldn’t accept that.

One could also argue that you don’t know until you try so it’s better to at least start and deal with the challenges as they come.
This is something that I continue to work through because I typically lean towards wanting perfection from a process I’m a beginner to.
But with all of this time I’ve had to reflect and let’s be real…sit in my inaction, the only next step to take is ACTION.
Which is ironic because majority of the time I will find that whatever I’m attempting isn’t as bad as I conjured up in my head.
But let’s see if I still feel that way after I press “publish” haha.
3 Tips To Help You Conquer Fear
I’m definitely someone who likes to anticipate every part of the process and I do this in the name of knowing what my obstacles will be before I face them.
This is somewhat of a dangerous mindset because the reality is that you will never know anything 100%.
You just need to begin and trust that you are capable of working through whatever comes your way.
Be comfortable with uncertainty
This doesn’t mean don’t do your due diligence in researching whatever it is you need to, but when you start to notice that the level of research is inhibiting your ability to execute… stop this.
The reality is that we can plan every step as we want it to go, but nothing ever goes exactly as planned.
You actually put yourself in a position where you’re able to learn and grow as a person when you’re faced with obstacles.
Don’t block your own growth!!
Don’t be too critical
This is kind of tied with the first tip, but when I realized that being overly critical was just me finding excuses to further prolong taking action…. This was a big realization.
I would be overly critical of myself and I would do it in the name of holding myself to a high standard.
Now again, there’s nothing wrong with holding yourself to a high standard.
You should value high quality work and be proud of everything that you produce.
It’s okay to take time to sit on things as a part of the creative process.
But when you’re so critical that it makes you prolong or continuously delay engaging in your passion, it’s time to reflect on your standards and expectations.
Stop fantasizing the outcome, and fantasize the process
If you’re anything like me and have spent hours fantasizing about how it’s going to look when you’ve accomplished your goals then we need to have a chat.
It’s so easy to get wrapped up in what we want and forget about all of the valuable lessons we’re going to learn along the journey.
It is in the process that we will learn so many valuable lessons that can be used in so many other aspects of our lives.
I also believe that it’s in the process that we use our experiences to strengthen our “why”
It is so easy to give up when things get hard but through these challenges we can build a case for why we are enduring all of this.
When I say “build a case” I mean just that.
Imagine yourself as lawyer and you are looking for all the evidence to support that you are meant to see this goal through and reminders of why you are doing it.
The trick is to have so many reasons programmed into your mind that when any self limiting belief comes up you can always go back to why.
And if you needed another sign to do whatever it is that’s been on your mind, whether it’s been a month, a year or 5, this is your sign!!!
